Kursed – Miaow (2012)

Kursed Miaow 2012 Two years after its acclaimed debut effort “Like a coffee” released through M&O Music & Mosaic Music Distribution, Kursed returns with a new album entitled “Miaow” and filled-up with the same Brit indie rock and post-punk revival flavored music in the vein of Arctic Monkeys, Bloc Party, The Fratellis, Kaiser Chiefs, and blended with dirty American, blues rooted indie rock in the footsteps of The Black Keys, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Modest Mouse, The Killers, and Interpol.
This mixture of sounds and aromas might be odd or at least unusual for a French band, but Kursed proved that in music there is no boundaries, on the other hand they proved a vivid ability to turn those “foreign” genres into their own and finally giving to the music their own identity. Cortez – Phoebus (2013)

Cortez - Phoebus (2013) The Swiss trio are back and it’s time for the new set of dark and furious butchery! Although guitarist Antoine Tinguely (ex-Berserk For Tea Time) replaced former guitarist Samuel Vaney, Vaney is now supporting the band as composer/mixer.
While the drums were recorded in the REC Studio of Serge Morattel in Geneva, they recorded the guitars and vocals in their own rehearsal room, the new album is the result of hard work, giving the band big freedom in creation and the possibility to fully assume the production process. The sound it’s pretty raw, unpolished and have a pithy live vibe, if you pump up the volume high enough, almost feels like you are there in the rehearsal room. So, “Phoebus” it’s not about surgically clean sound and high-end production, but about the unleashed strength of metal, about the flesh ripper riffs and pounding like hell drums, about not making compromises, but expressing feelings through music. Mark Stewart – Exorcism Of Envy (2012)

Mark Stewart – Exorcism Of Envy (2012) I wonder how many people still remember a band called The Pop Group? And generally speaking, anybody remember anything lately? Anyway, just for the record:
formed in 1978 and split up in 1981, this Bristol based British act pioneered the merged of punk, free jazz, funk and dub reggae, released several singles, possibly their best-known was “We Are All Prostitutes”, and two albums followed by some bootlegs after their disbanding.
While other members of the group went on to join bands including Pigbag, Maximum Joy, Head, The Slits and Rip Rig + Panic, singer Mark Stewart collaborated with the On-U Sound posse, issuing records firstly as Mark Stewart and Maffia, then as a solo artist. They reunited in 2010 and since played several gigs. But “Exorcism Of Envy” it’s the seventh solo album by Stewart, released on March 26, 2012 through Future Noise. We’ve got 47 minutes of electronic fueled, smoothly pulsing, but twisted in and out, minimalist and finest dub and rawest industrial flavored post punk trip. While everybody try to f*ck up your loudspeakers with sicker then the sickest wobbling s*it while behind most of those beautiful contortions and noises there is nothing but annoying emptiness, Stewart once again delivered a record with content. EmptyMansions – snakes/vultures/sulfate (2013)

EmptyMansions snakes vultures sulfate 2013 EmptyMansions it’s the solo effort of Interpol’s drummer Sam Fogarino. Sam Fogarino wrote most of the songs for snakes while on tour promoting Interpol’s fourth and self-titled album, from mid 2009 to late 2011. This is raw sounding, garage flavored, but genuine indie rock, somewhere in the space between dEUS, Eels (in their good old days) and Sonic Youth. As he describe it: lyrically, the songs are the result of he’s reading much postmodern fiction by writers such as Hubert Selby Jr (‘Sulfate’); discovering an appreciation for aerial dance and a fascination with outer-space (‘Lyra’); the TV-drama Justified (‘Up In The Holler’), and Black Francis of Pixies fame (‘That Man’). Musically, Sam drew upon classic heavyweights; Neil Young (The closing track on snakes is a cover of ‘Down By The River’), The Stones, Zeppelin—filtered through his affinity with the likes of Sonic Youth and Pixies. Not Only Bass, volume I – free download (2012)

Nu Doar Bas volume I “Nu Doar Bas” – meaning, Not Only Bass, it’s a free album with some of the best romanian producers (Vlad Onu, Alien Pimp, Dudawles, Archer, Dyl, Fane, Mighty Boogie, and Beepo) in drum and bass and dubstep, plus as a bonus a tune from Marginal (featuring Datacode and Alien Pimp). We’ve got 9 tracks, 51 minutes of pumping Glitch-Hop with some contorted wobbling and drops, a chilled, smooth, but electrifying mixture of subtle IDM textures and noisier, drum’n’bass flavored and sometimes dub and drumstep fueled, nowadays fancy contortions. All the tracks have their own sound and taste, although the compilation flows smoothly and flawless. This young producers managed to stay close to the trend with the sound, but simultaneously being creative and adding their own identity to these tracks.
