I discovered Silverstein back in 2009 when they released their previous album “A Shipwreck in the Sand”, a colorful, intense, modern Metal album. The Canadian band formed in 2000 at Burlington, Ontario, have been navigated from Emo to Screamo and while those labels seems uncomfortable and commercially more and more unproductive, they switched to the much generous Post-hardcore. Abraham – An Eye On The Universe (2011)
Formally known as Le Baron Vampire, Abraham was formed in 2007 around members of metal acts Kruger and Nabokoff. Abraham is a post-hardcore quintet from Lausanne, Switzerland and they recently singed to Pelagic Records and making their debut with this dark and heavy album called “An Eye On the Universe”. Abrasive and heavy, tenebrous and cloudy, Abraham bring to the surface a contorted universe, they shifting from dark and intense moments to mysterious and spacier passages, but maintaining permanently the tension, the gloomy atmosphere. Shreds of light sometimes comes through the cracks of the crushing themes they construct and that brings color and interesting shades into their music. Agnostic Front – My Life My Way (2011)
The Godfathers of New York Hardcore returning with their tenth full-length studio album, following their previous release called “Warriors” from 2007.
The band was formed by guitarist Vinnie Stigma – formerly of the Eliminators -Â in late 1980. Their debut EP, “United Blood”, released in 1983 on an indie label, has since become a collector’s item. At this time, the band consisted entirely of skinheads, although this would change over time, Agnostic Front would continue to feature skinheads as part of their line-up.
The first album, “Victim in Pain”, was realeased in 1984 and the band went to tour with The Exploited. The album pushed the band to the forefront of New York’s fledgling hardcore scene, which was centered around CBGB’s, where they played with bands like The Cro-Mags and Murphy’s Law.
1986’s “Cause for Alarm” was released on Combat Records, it added thrash metal influences. With other bands such as Suicidal Tendencies and Stormtroopers of Death, this album would mark AF’s foray into the world of crossover thrash. Deftones – Covers (2011)
To commemorate “Record Store Day“, Deftones released a special edition “Covers” album. This LP is a collection of classic Deftones’ cover tracks, pressed together on limited edition vinyl for the first time ever and only 3K of these will be available. Deftones play songs by artists like The Cure, Japan, Drive Like Jehu, The Cars, The Smiths, Lynryd Skynrd, Duran Duran. I like covers, actually I collect them and sometimes I find real pearls, interesting reinterpretations or new, unexpected dimension of some more or less classic tracks. To play one on one somebody else’s song, make no sense. It’s actually not the first time when Deftones delight us with covers,their “B Sides & Rarities” – Released in 2005 – compilation included cover songs from their favorite artists, ranging from metal, hard rock (Lynyrd Skynyrd) and post-hardcore (Helmet and Jawbox), to gothic rock, art rock and new wave (Duran Duran, Cocteau Twins and The Cure), so, they always have a “colored” taste, and this vinyl is colored and contrasting as well. New Discolour – Short Of Ink (2011)
Remains me most of Pantera, New Discolour bring a heavy blend of old-school metal, hardcore with a sort of modern and extremely intense approach, actually their put together a very powerful and exciting material.
Formerly known as She Is Malignant, started in september 2008 with only one EP released entitled “Silent Scream”, they changed their name to New Discolour and “Short Of Ink” is their debut album.
Coming from Kolding/Aarhus/Esbjerg, Vælg din region, Danmark, Artem Kushnirenko – vocals, Jesper Rasmussen and Søren Thomsen – guitars, Mayu Tharumann – bass and Lasse Mikkelsen – drums, put together a very promising material, cutting edge riffs, pumping bass and crushing drums with intense vocals make this album heavy, classy, but fresh and alive. Thursday – No Devolucion (2011)
If someone still recalls the “genre” named AOR, then Thursday probably may be labeled as adult oriented hardcore. From emo they come a long way, but up to date, Thursday are a mature band, their music is dense, but still mysteriously airy, discrete pianos and nervous guitar riffs are nicely overlapping and shifting from mood to mood. “No Devolución” it’s like Sigur Rós plays some Fugazi songs. It’s strange, but beautiful, almost hypnotic.
Thursday was formed in 1997 and in the summer of 1999, teamed up with MP3.com for their first official release, the 1999 “Summer Tour” EP. Their debut album, “Waiting” was released on December 6, 1999 on Eyeball Records without any singles or support from television or radio. Hesitant to join a larger label, but with full support from Eyeball Records, Thursday signed to Victory Records and released their second album, “Full Collapse” in 2001. Victory Records filmed a music video for “Understanding in a Car Crash” consisting of live footage of the band and marketed the song as the band’s first single, without the band’s authorization. MindFlow – With Bare Hands (2011)
The voice of Danilo Herbert reminds me somehow of John Bush (ex-Armored Saint, ex-Anthrax). It’s powerful and classy. MindFlow was founded in 2003 in Brazil and they play a color and powerful kind of modern, progressive metal. Quality stuff, a rare feature now days. You can attach to them a few labels, mostly using the fancy “post” attribute, but actually you can not put them in a specific box and – I believe – it’s another absolutely positive characteristic. In one moment they sound like Anthrax, next minute they sound like Tool or some post-grunge band and they shifting from one thing to another very naturally, it’s enough to listen the title track of this new album and you will understand exactly what I’m talking about. Ten After Two – Truth Is… (2011)
Intense, smashing and raging post-hardcore phrases and post-emo/screamo, more melodious passages seems to be the recipe of this young band from Sacramento, CA formed in May of 2009 by two school friends, drummer Vincent Adorno and guitarist Pat Hennion.
Next arrived vocalist and guitarist Josh Doty, who previously played in a band called Elanor Manor and he also introduced vocalist Sean Wall. The final piece to the puzzle was bassist Danny Clark and the band begun writing, producing their music. Read more Ten After Two – Truth Is… (2011)
Blind Myself – Szumma (2010)
L-am cunoscut pe Gergely Toth prin intermediul lui Andras Voros (Superbutt – la aceea vreme Fresh Fabrik) la sfârşitul verii lui 1997 şi i-am văzut şi live de vre-o două ori, inclusiv la Sziget pe scena „Banan” unde am văzut, ascultat şi multe alte trupe interesante din Underground-ul maghiar. Am făcut în toamna aceea şi un interviu cu Gergely pentru Heavy Metal Magazine, am fost în Buda la locul său de muncă într-un magazin pentru skateri. Între timp Gergely e gazda şi producătorul „Headbangers Ball”-ului de pe MTV Ungaria, dar şi VJ al altor emisiuni şi trupa sa este una cunoscută şi apreciată şi dincolo de hotarele Ungariei. Şi la Andras, şi la Gergely mi-a plăcut că erau modeşti, normali în sensul cel mai onest al cuvântului, munceau mult şi erau ambiţioşi şi mă bucur sincer că efortul lor a fost răsplătit şi ambii cu trupele lor au ajuns departe – sau sus 🙂 -, cum vreţi să-i spuneţi.

Enough Has Been Said – Premonitions (2010)
Extrem de brutali, tehnici, dar şi coloraţi, Enough Has Been Said sunt o gaşcă din Mexic şi amestecă la modul cel mai fericit Hardcore furios cu elemente Metalcore, sonorităţi Death şi infuzii moderne, dar şi pasaje aerisite şi mici experimente progresive sunt înserate pe ici-colo în muzica lor.
Prea multe detalii n-am reuşit să dezgrop despre ei, în 2004 chitariştii Dario şi Gerardo au descoperit că împărtăşesc aceeaşi pasiune pentru Metal, având printre favorite nume ca Children of Bodom, Shadows Fall , Killswitch Engage, etc. Lor li s-a alăturat solistul Oswaldo ca-n 2005 componenţa trupei să fie completată de bateristul Alejandro şi basistul Alexis.
