Guano Apes are back! This is the good news. Guano Apes are softer than ever. This is not so good news. “She’s A Killer” it’s pretty intense and they still have some nerve, but there’s no more real skater anthems. The reunited Guano Apes left behind the nu metal and in gender the metal roots and they have some kind of indie rock approach with electronic spices. It’s not that bad, but somehow they didn’t manage to write rememberable tunes, sticky choruses, this collection of 12 brand new songs are kind of similar and linear. They have a few better moments, “Trust” is another better song for example, but still, something is missing. They last real release, “Walking On A Thin Line” came out eight years ago and a decade it’s like eternity this times, and “Bel Air” it’s sort of thin for a come back. They original fan base probably put their skates up in the attic and till now have a family and other worries. Generally this are not too good times for the entertainment business. Does It Offend You, Yeah? – Don’t Say We Didn’t Warn You (2011)
Three years I waited for the second DIOYY? album and now I can breathe realesed: it was worth it. The exuberant energy, the pumping life, their pulse that is entirely lacking in many other products lately, is still there and still alive . Maybe even edgy and crushing. The incendiary mixture of Dance Punk, Indie Rock, New Rave and Synthpop works flawlessly and this time, the boys delivered 10 excellent songs and a perfect album.
Established in Reading in 2006 by James Rushent – vocals, bass guitar, guitar, synthesizers and Dan Coop – synthesizers, the formula was completed with Rob Bloomfield – drums, bass, guitar, synthesizer, backing vocals, and in 2007 the band was joined by Morgan Quaintance – guitar. Despre OK Go şi acest „Of The Blue Colour Of The Sky” am scris în data de 20 ianuarie şi atunci, la primele ascultări cred că i-am subapreciat. Mi-a plăcut materialul şi atunci, dar ca foarte puţine discuri din ultimii ani, „Of The Blue Colour Of The Sky” s-a lipit la propriu de mp3 playerul meu, săptămâni la rând l-am tot ascultat şi re-ascultat şi de-a lungul anului am revenit la el în repetate rânduri.
Am păţit cu OK Go cam ce am păţit cu Kings Of Leon şi al lor „Only By the Night” anul trecut.
Piesele de pe albumul „Of The Blue Colour Of The Sky” toate au farmec, au şarm, au câte un cârlig, infuziile şi reflexiile diferite prind o culoare aparte în interpretarea, re-interpretarea şi viziunea celor din OK Go.

Trophy Scars – Darkness, Oh Hell (2010)
Îmi dau seama că recomandările mele în mod frecvent n-au nici o relevanţă, lumea preferă brand-urile comode, marfa corporatistă de larg consum, ciunga ulimu’ răcnet asortat iPodului, însă aceşti Trophy Scars m-au lăsat cu gura căscată. Foarte proaspătul „Darkness, Oh Hell” este un amestec ameţitor de sonorităţi de la secvenţe Post Hardcore la Jazz şi Blues Rock, de la Indie realmente Alternative la orchestraţii subtile asortate perfect cu viori sau suflători şi au nervul absolut absent noii generaţii (pseudo) Punk. Oscilează pe o gamă extrem de largă muzical, riff-urile furioase nu exclud armoniile, pianul sau trompeta se îmbină cu cele mai incisive ritmuri şi răbufniri zgomotoase.
Catalogaţi Post Hardcore experimental, Trophy Scars mi-au amintit de geniul celor din Cop Shoot Cop, experimentele avangardiste ale celor din Crass, prospeţimea şi creativitatea celor din Sonic Youth (mai ales cu sonorităţile albumul „Dirty” – 1992), au ceva din abordarea celor din Rollins Band de pe albumul „Weight” (1994), dar mi-au amintit şi de Clutch şi Helmet presărat cu ceva din şarmul lui Tom Waits. Rădăcinile The Beatles se împletesc organic cu energia unor Converge (mă bucur că şi alţii au remarcat gaşca aceasta de Metal), dar şi cu sonorităţile experimental-zgomotoase ale celor din Eels în cele mai incisive şi frământate momente ale lor.
Muzica lor este o invitaţie de a explora lumea dincolo de aparenţe şi evidenţe, o lume ascunsă, vibrantă, uneori întunecată şi îmbibată de misticism şi magie. O magie pierdută, uitată, izolată în subconştient şi abandonată. Read more Trophy Scars – Darkness, Oh Hell (2010)
OK Go – Of the Blue Colour of the Sky (2010)
M-am „împiedicat” de acest „Of the Blue Colour of the Sky” lansat pe 12 ianuarie pur întâmplător. La prima „atingere” mi-au amintit de The Cars (1976-1988) şi Fisher-Z (1979-1987), puteam să amintesc eventual de mult mai celebrii Duran Duran, dar probabil sunt eu relativ sărac pe felia aceasta de muzică. Vocea lui Damian Kulash uneori aminteşte şi de Prince şi chiar şi unele formule mai Funky-Pop amintesc de acesta, dar dincolo de paralelele inevitabile pe care chiar şi involuntari le facem, OK Go sunt chiar…ok. 🙂 – Redy to go?
Nu prea mi-am făcut temele legate de ei, tot ce ştiu este că s-au înfiinţat din 1998 şi mai au două albume:
”OK Go” (2002) şi „Oh No” (2005), pe care nu le-am auzit.
