Regarding my remixes, as a fellow producer noticed, I do some creative work, actually I re-write, re-perform most of the instruments, not only “remixing” the songs, so this might be an exciting listening mainly for those who know the originals, but not exclusively for them. I twisted off, smashed and mashed, scratched and trashed songs by Nine Inch Nails, Ghostland Observatory, Paper Diamond, Archnemesis, Lloyd Banks, Peter Gabriel, Jane’s Addiction, She Wants Revenge, Jessie and the Toy Boys, WormZ and Family Force 5.

Their debut full length album “Peoples Radio” is available now for free download at their official website, just like their debut EP, “Diamonds And Glass”. Cookies for Christmas! Anyway, this is a quite fan (and user) friendly approach.
Formed by Justin Aubuchon and Curt Heiny, Archnemesis prefers to defined themselves by the self-coined term “Intelligent Electro-Crunk”. Merging funky licks with acid layers, digging back to the earliest jazz and blues samples and mash them up with modern hip hop and soul samples, contorted dubsteb wobbles and to all this boiling cocktail adding their own sound and creating something brand new and fresh, Archnemesis definitively know to set a club on fire with their glowing grooves. Difficult to be extremely precise, we’re living kind of interesting times and well, interesting is also the music of Dirk Geiger and this collection of remixes by 14 talented electronic artists, so this is quite an opportunity and we’ve got both: the interesting universe of Geiger, but also the reinterpretation of some fellow electronic artists. Geiger’s world is gloomy and contorted, subtle dark layers and distorted glitcherings are bring to the surface a dark, but pulsing universe. This is a post-industrial area of the music filled with cinematic soundscapes, post-psychedelia and percussive noises, a world of modern isolation and cold desperation. Hardcore anybody? Can download Børedøm¸m’s “World Bores To Death” from their Bandcamp page FOR FREE. It’s a raging mixture of angry hardcore-punk and dirty crust, they are fast and furious, kind of Motorhead meets The Exploited.
As they say, they are from “a shiathole called Graz/Gradec which is located in a pitiful and stupid nation state called Austria in a construct called Europe. We try to deal with that somehow.” 😀 I actually can think of worst locations and situations, but this is not the issue. Encouraging free download, releasing classic vinyls and spreading real underground metal and alternatives for the mainstream crap, Throatruiner Records from France seems to be a nowadays Don Quijote of the music industry. One of these days I was thinking about my old record collection, I really miss now the scratches and the warm sound of the vinyls, I miss the big covers and the touch of the paper, I miss the good times they represent at least symbolically. The good times of the music when music was more about music and less about business and industry. I fucking hate the plastic cases, the cellophane coating as I hate the folders on my hard drive and the mp3s. Everything is so plastic and so tasteless.
What I’m saying is that the effort of Throatruiner Records and other-likes worth some respect and recognition. Their new 3-Way split is once again available to listen, free download or buy at their Bandcamp page, but I think both – bands and label – deserves some remuneration. Peace Of Mind – While My Akai Gently Weeps (2011)
This is a beat tape made from some of the famous songs of The Beatles. We’ve got “A Day In The Life”, “Happiness Is A Warm Gun”, “I Want You”, “While My Guitar Gently Weeps”, “She Came In Though The Bathroom Window”, “Strawberry Fields” as well as some of Lennon’s songs as “Give Peace A Chance”, “Imagine” or “Instant Karma”, and some of McCartney’s songs as “Band On The Run”.
And well, even if there was some legal issues regarding the copyrights, this is a free mix tape, can download the stuff from All Bout Beats or Bloggerhouse.
I grew up listening my mom’s The Beatles vinyls, I learned English this way, listening, singing and translating word by word with the dictionary their lyrics. And actually it’s hard not to love them. Hardcore fans and conservatives probably will consider inappropriate to “mess” with these songs, but actually this is a quite enjoyable mixtape, have some bright moments and after all, it’s all about the beat, isn’t it? 🙂 Enjoy it!
