EtHERSENS Your wandering ghost 2014

EtHERSENS Your wandering ghost 2014 Progressive metal became pretty much synonymous with Dream Theater. It’s probably not fair, but it’s a fact. EtHERSENS it’s a French progressive metal project and “Your wandering ghost” it’s their second album after considerable a six year gap.
While the opening, almost 10 minutes long “Two For One Mind” evoke the mentioned Dream Theater spirit and it’s an intense and powerful progressive metal hurricane, the following “Same Goodbye” merge some dark, shoegaze flavored atmosphere and ambiances with the classy Porcupine Tree flavor. Another name which came up in my mind was Pain Of Salvation.
So, this is not a one track-mind type of band and not a one track type of album. And the album it’s intense and colorful throughout, make the listener to listen, keep the interest alive from riff to riff, from break to break. They not only created a positive tension and expectation, but delivered exciting, quality music. Give it a shot! Songs like “Livin’ Memory” will definitively ringing in your ears and will make you wanna listen more! Read more EtHERSENS – Your wandering ghost (2014) ›

Belzebass - Welcome To Hell

Belzebass - Welcome To Hell Belzebass it’s a clubcore duo from Italy, and they delivering some extreme, aggressive s*it, be precocious, it can seriously harm your speakers and through them your ears and finally your brain may get fried. The 2 guys with roots back to the hardcore and death metal scene like to produce and mix what they like: wicked beats, fat basses, rough synths, pig squeals all mashed with twisted off, dark atmospheres.

Xiu Xiu – Angel Guts Red Classroom (2014)

Xiu Xiu – Angel Guts Red Classroom (2014) “Angel Guts: Red Classroom” is the ninth studio album by Xiu Xiu, it’s scheduled for release on February 4, 2014, only two month away from the Nina Simone tribute album and entitled simply “Nina”. I still try to figure out if I like or I don’t like the music of singer-songwriter Jamie Stewart. There is a strong, charming, 70’s and 80’s rooted David Bowie flavor which is awesome. On the other hand, sometimes the sonic trips are going over the edge of bizarre and I’m not sure I’m always capable to follow them anywhere unconditionally. But at least I’m honest to admit it. Then again, I hate the snobs who pretend they understand everything and praise anything which it’s “out of the box”, just because it’s… odd. I’m a weirdo, but I have the decency to admit my limitations! 😆
So, Xiu Xiu it’s a music of moods. If you play it in the right circumstances, have the proper state of mind, the appropriate mood, you’re on the same trip, you will enjoy it. But if you’re on a different track, their twisted off adventures might feel like torture. This time we were on the same frequency. I like that fever burned, warm and wicked analog sound. The instruments used to record the album were limited to analog drum machines, analog synthesizers, and a drum set. The result it’s pretty dark and dense. Turn off the light, turn up the volume! Of Mice & Men – Restoring Force (2014)

Of Mice & Men - Restoring Force (2014)

Of Mice & Men - Restoring Force (2014) I just saw a few days back “Through the Never” and listening the opening track of the third full-length studio abum by Of Mice & Men I realized that not one of these metal bands would sound the same if the Danish-born drummer Lars Ulrich and guitarist James Hetfield wouldn’t met in late 1981 after Ulrich placed an advertisement in a Los Angeles newspaper called The Recycler. Well, the second name which came in my mind was obviously Pantera. Without the contorted and twisted off riffs of Dimebag Darrell most of these new metal(core) bands would still riffing like Tony Iommi or like Dave Murray and Adrian Smith. And there’s nothing wrong riffing like that actually. 🙂
Although I’m not particularly excited about this new wave of so-called metalcore bands, Of Mice & Men is definitively one of the leading bands of the new generation and I liked their sound and style right from the beginning. With – or maybe because – of this Metallica/Pantera parallels, but also because they managed to re-assemble this classic influences into a new type of sound and approach. And “Restoring Force” it’s a banging throughout album filled up with fabulous riffs and grinding to the ground songs. Read more Of Mice & Men – Restoring Force (2014) ›
