The complete name of the genius American jazz trumpeter, Miles Davis, actually was Miles Dewey Davis III. Dewey is a name chosen by several artists for their bands, some in its simple form, others as Dewey Band, and many more, just like Miles, born with this name. The French band made of Edouard – guitar, Seb – bass, Tony – guitar, Ben – vocals and Guillaume – drums recorded their debut effort between May and June 2010 by them self and released it on their Bandcamp page on 20 May 2011.
Dewey delivering a gloomy mixture of post-metal with roots back to black, death and crust metal, slow, crushing moments are combined with grinding, fast passages, they songs are filled with dark atmosphere, expressive, sometimes quite cinematic elements, but still, very intense, disturbing metal.

Ed Wood Jr – Ruban de Mobius (2010)
Edward Davis Wood, Jr. (October 10, 1924 – December 10, 1978), better known as Ed Wood was an American screenwriter, director, producer, actor, author, and editor, who often performed many of these functions simultaneously. In the 1950s, Wood made a number of cheap genre films, now enjoyed for their technical errors, unsophisticated special effects, large amounts of ill-fitting stock footage, idiosyncratic dialogue, eccentric casts and outlandish plot elements. Wood’s popularity waned soon after his biggest name star, Bela Lugosi, died, toward the end of his life, Wood made pornographic movies and wrote pulp crime, horror, and sex novels. Some of his most famous movies are “Glen or Glenda”, “Jail Bait”, “Bride of the Monster”, and “Plan 9 from Outer Space”.
In 2008, at Lille, France, Olivier Desmulliez – guitar, keyboard and samples & Thibault Doutriaux – drums started their project named Ed Wood Jr and released fastly their first self-titled EP, inspired by artists such as Don Caballero, Battles or bands like From Monument To Masses. Alienation Mental – Self Titled (2011)
From Prague, Czech Republic, since 1998 delivering ravishing mixture of grind/death and sometimes quite experimental metal. Oleg “mrtvola” Kamenetski – vocals, Pavel “hjalli” Kuchař – guitar and bass, Tomáš “lesik” Mleziva – guitar and Jarda “mental” Haž – drums, throw in their sick-minded music blender elements from classic monsters such as Napalm Death till twisted turns of Korn and the result is quite impressive. “Nonsense” have grindings, have Korn like dark riffings and screams, but also jazzy cut-downs. It’s a killer track. And well, Alienation Mental have lot of surprises, they do not grinding from the beginning till the end, they knew to colour they music with exciting switches, inspired twists and turns, changing of tempos and approaches from grinding to slow cutting riffs, industrial colours and noise massacres, have some inspired riffs, wrote some good themes and actually have a few very good songs (“Nonsense”, “Indifference”,”Emotions of People 53 Seconds Before the End of the World”, “Follow the Perfecitizen”) not exclusively butchering. Pariso – Sooner Insignificant Better (2011)
Not Betty, but only Pariso, still pretty musculus. Based primarially in London, Pariso formed early in 2009 under the moniker of Betty Pariso, released a split 7″ with the now defunct Manuscripts same year in July. Still going by the name Betty Pariso the band played a whole string of shows and it wasn’t long before another recording session was under their belts – a split cassette with We’ll Die Smiling. Drummer Tom decided in Easter 2010 that he was going to leave the band to concentrate on his now successful clothing line King Noir. Following Tom’s departure and a couple of months off, the band halved their name and found Alisdair whose drumming style solidified Pariso’s sound. A few old un-recorded tracks and some new ones written with Alisdair found their way onto the “Sooner Insignificant Better” 7″ which was released in January 2011 and is the first under the new name: Pariso. Free release (name your price), available for download on their Bandcamp page, “Awake In Sleep” is a gloomy, turbulent sludge/post-rock/post-metal release in the classic vain of Neurosis, Isis, Cult of Luna, etc from a young band from Nantes, France.
Andrey Kalinovsky Рguitar and vocals, Fran̤ois Cl̩zio Рguitar, David Roger Рbass and backing vocals and drummer Maxime Guerreiro delivered an EP filled with four epic, dark and noise compositions, coloured with noises, creepy textures, cutting edge riffs and raw vocals. Contorted, dirty and heavy moments are interrelated with smoother, quite moments, nice musical contemplations, this material is pretty intense, but also interesting and nicely balanced between heaviness and musicality. Dark and atmospheric, slow and fearful, heavy and mysterious, Dirge comes on a long way of explorations and experiments, started from industrial roots they grow into the sludge/doom area of experimental/avant-garde metal, incorporate both classic rock instruments and samplers/machines into their own flavored dark metal fulfilled with progressive rock and cinematic elements.
If something actually is dark and heavy, definitively Dirge is. Merging classic approaches with modern structures, sounds and elements, they delivering their own epic, tortured and contorted metal, absolutely heavy and dark as a starless night. Still, their music contains melodies, quite musical themes which gave them a mysterious sparkling. Gave to the guys from Crowbar some old Pink Floyd themes to jam with and you’re almost there where Dirge starts their path of exploration and creation. The way out is through… together in sickness and filth… as long as somebody can really explain me what “weirdo” means, what is actually sick or filthy. It’s quite small chances to let myself tied up as it’s just don’t seems an option to torture somebody for my own pleasure, but that really don’t make me healthier as those who doing this kind of “kinky” stuffs are not by default sicker then me. Still, there’s always a first time for everything and… never say never because as a joke of life, when you refuse something it will comes down on you crushing. Differences make us unique, and right or wrong is just a matter of perception.
And 6:33 is quite an unique and intense blending of music including metal rawness, electro/jazz/funk vibe, industrial shapes, darkwave and pop like melodies and… maladies and… lot of healthy sickness. Eli Litwin was born in 1983 in Morristown, NJ. He began playing drums at the age of 9 and started his first rock band at age 11. Through high school he continued to play in a variety of rock bands as well as the high school jazz band. Eli chose to attend the Esther Boyer College of Music at Temple University where he studied drum set with Erik Johnson. Since graduating with his Bachelors of Music in Jazz Performance, Eli has remained in Philadelphia to pursue music on both the performing and teaching ends.
