Posted on April 1, 2012 by brushvox — No Comments ↓

Formed in 2004, in Paris (France), Devianz, this five piece band, now delivering their long awaited second full-length album, “A Corps Interrompus” (With Interrupted Bodies). 13 tracks, one bonus and one top collaboration with Vincent Cavanagh of Anathema on the song called “Ton corps n’est qu’atome” (You’re Body is Nothing But Atoms), revels a wild, willing and extremely capable band which managed to blending sensitive, acoustic rooted European Rock with the energy, explosion and rawness of the American Indie and Post-Hardcore. But more further than another perfect sonic experiment, Guyom Pavesi, Benoît Blin, Pierre Labarbe, Vincent Rémon, and Charles-Vincent Lefèvre write and recorded 14 songs. The Prestige – Black Mouths (2012)

Posted on March 29, 2012 by brushvox — No Comments ↓

The Prestige - Black Mouths (Artwork) Back at the beginning of the 90s with all that Alternative/Indie/Grunge wave, I discovered several huge bands among all the trash praised by the media and pushed by the record labels and agencies. One of them was the obscure H.P. Zinker from New York founded by Hans Platzgumer. Their last album, “Mountains of Madness” released in 1995 and its cover design by Stefan Sagmeister won several design awards and it was also nominated for Grammy. “Black Mouths” strangely, but unrelated, reminds me of that record. This Parisian quartet featuring Alex – vocals & guitars, Raphael – guitars, Thibaut – drums, and Julien – bass, delivering a same kind of colorful post-punk/hardcore, adrenaline fueled music merged with lots of colorful, experimental moments and deviations.
Can grab for free “The Truth”, the opening track of their upcoming full-length debut album. Read more The Prestige – Black Mouths (2012) ›

Elizabeth – Where Vultures Land, EP (2012) – free download!

Posted on March 12, 2012 by brushvox — No Comments ↓

This is the debut EP of this brutally brilliant Swiss band delivered – once again – in its digital format and even FOR FREE by Throatruinner Records and its fully devoted “driver”, Matthias Jungbluth. He’s fan-friendly approach, he’s support of those bands deserves our support and every and each penny counts!
Elizabeth reminds me of Celtic Frost in the best possible sense, actually sounds pretty as a modern, and even future Celtic Frost incorporating along the traditional Black and Thrash Metal heritage all the post-scremo, post-hardcore, post-punk, and post (modern) whatevers, everything what can make the music more louder, more stronger, more extreme. And Elizabeth seems to find just the right path of merging past and future into their own cutting edge Metal. Read more Elizabeth – Where Vultures Land, EP (2012) – free download! ›

VALVE – Self-titled EP (2012) free download

Posted on March 8, 2012 by brushvox — No Comments ↓

Contorted ant tumultuous, VALVE delivered a noisy and grinding debut EP which can be bought (name your price) from their Bandcamp page or downloaded for free from the link they offer on Mediafire.
The Parisian band delivering a very heavy and consistent modern Metal merging from Doom to Groove Metal and from Sludge to (post-modern) Metalcore all kind of different Metal sub-genres, but the result is very intense and intriguingly compact, crushing, cutting-edge Metal. In the nowadays over-dumping offering of so-called Metalcore products, VALVE almost miraculously find their own voice, path and sound and succeed to deliver a mature and quality product. “Siren” is my favorite track, although all the five tracks are equally and extremely intense and experimental, temerarious songs.
Definitively a nice surprise and a very promise full debut. Don’t hesitate, go and grab it!!! Read more VALVE – Self-titled EP (2012) free download ›

YOG – Half the Sky (2011)

Posted on February 28, 2012 by brushvox — No Comments ↓

Brutally grinding, virulent and sometimes chaotic, YOG managed to merged different sounds and approaches of extreme metal into their own slaughter.
Formed back in early 2000, in Neuchâtel (Switzerland), YOG taken off in the early days from the influence of bands like Sick of it All, Disrupt and Napalm Death only to reach into the more intense, twisted and sick sound of bands like The Dillinger Escape Plan, Botch, Pig Destroyer, Converge and other extreme combos of the modern hardcore scene.
After the release of their debut album entitled “Years of Nowhere”, they take by assault the stages across Europe with bands like Today is the Day, Genghis Tron, Gojira, Knut, Burnt By the Sun, etc. Read more YOG – Half the Sky (2011) ›

Therapy? – A Brief Crack Of Light (2012)

Posted on January 30, 2012 by brushvox — 2 Comments ↓

Therapy – A Brief Crack Of Light (2012) Russian novelist Vladimir Nabokov, once describes life as “A brief crack of light between two eternities of darkness”. The forthcoming thirteenth studio album by Therapy? was entitled “A Brief Crack Of Light”, it was originally scheduled to be released in October 2011 , but delayed to be released on February 6, 2012.
The first single, “Living In The Shadow Of The Terrible Thing” is available for download since January 23rd and Therapy? have the same edge, sounds dirty and pounding.
The album was recorded in two separate sessions, the first from December 2010 to February 2011, and the second in June 2011 at Blast Studios, Newcastle, England, and it was produced by Adam Sinclair and Andy Cairns.
This is not the Therapy? of ’94, and this isn’t the follow up of “Troublegum”, probably they will not make it again to the Top of the Pops, but I still love them, and this is the logical follow up of their previous “Crooked Timber” (2009), a truly and deeply alternative rock album. Attack Attack! – This Means War (2012)

Posted on January 22, 2012 by brushvox — No Comments ↓

Except the geographical location, an exclamation mark less, the approach and sound makes the difference between the Welsh (UK) located Attack! Attack! and the Westerville, Ohio (USA) located, metalcore/electronicore band Attack Attack!. Hate to say this over and over, but a little more inventiveness and inspiration would be just great when people are about to choose their band name. It’s kind of starting with the wrong foot your career guys if there’s another band with the same or almost similar name in the business.
Formed in 2005 (while the band from Welsh seems to formed one year later…), some of their songs seems to contain Christian-based lyrics, but not all members of Attack Attack! are Christian, and do not consider themselves a Christian band. Musically, Attack Attack! merged the groove and aggression of Pantera with post-emo feeling and electronic sounds, features a djent sound to its guitar riffs played primarily in drop-G, and delivering a quite intense and disturbing mixture of melody and brutality. This third studio album by the band seems to be a concept album. Read more Attack Attack! – This Means War (2012) ›

Biohazard – Reborn In Defiance (2012)

Posted on January 20, 2012 by brushvox — No Comments ↓

I was expected a murderous follow-up of their 92’s “Urban Discipline”. You know, ’92 – ’12, it was a seven years gap between their eight and ninth studio album, we’re living kind of strange, sometimes twisted and dangerous times, I guess I actually missed pretty badly the bold power of some grinding tracks as “Punishment” was. “Vengeance Is Mine” have something from that spirit, but something still missing. And few tracks further kind of disappointment taking over the hopes and although “Reborn In Defiance” sounds cutting and strong, Biohazard seems to became too slow, too predictable, eventually to conservatives.
And the dilemma remains the same: Metal or Hardcore? Read more Biohazard – Reborn In Defiance (2012) ›

Enter Shikari – A Flash Flood Of Colour (2012)

Posted on January 16, 2012 by brushvox — No Comments ↓

The merging of metalcore and dubstep was kind of predictable and unavoidable evolution of the scene. Low frequency oscillations, the wobble bass and some crushing riffs and screaming vocals make a quite destructive pair and definitively fits the taste of the new generation. But there’s at least one question left. Those kids who are willing to set the city on fire only to steal a pair of sneakers and eventually a flat screen TV, are gonna pay for all that music the industry kindly delivering, or they gonna download – steal – it? And honestly, most of this music deserves nothing than to be downloaded.
Although I have my (musical) roots back in hardcore, but I also appreciate the quality dubstep too, so, I think this musical collision could bring to the surface quite exciting results, I still did not heard some outstanding results. America had his best shot by Korn, but not even the almighty Skrillex and a whole army of appreciated nowadays producers could save the lack of inspiration from “The Path Of Totality” and hide it under the massive sound. So, let’s see what the Brits managed to delivered on their third album… Read more Enter Shikari – A Flash Flood Of Colour (2012) ›
