At first instinct it seems handy to label Le Minus as a Primus follower and probably this French trio would not even consider themselves insulted, but listening throughout “Make My Day”, beside the obvious Les Claypool influences, Le Minus incorporates in their vivid musical universe elements which lead back to bands such as Mordred, Infectious Grooves, Fishbone, Living Colour and Rush. Sometimes getting wickeder and more Metal fueled (“Playing With Echoes”, “One Parachute”), the band forged some furious heavy riffs to combine them with some twisted funky grooves and crazy rhythmic structures finding the perfect balance between heaviness and fluidity, precision and wildness, complexity and efficiency.
Lord Murray, sing and play the bass pretty close in Les Claypool’s manner; Captain’ Yo have those Primus flavored crazy solos, but also deliver some serious riffs while drummer MOX is responsible for the solid structural and rhythmical bases of the trio. 9 tracks, a wild, colorful incursion in the experimental/avant-garde outer limits of Rock/Metal, an explosive fusion of energy and power, colors and flavors, murderous grooves, perfectly suitable for the fans of Claypool and Primus, but not only, more conventional/conservator listeners, fans of Rush for instance, may find this pretty exciting. Infectious Grooves – Mas Borracho (2000)
This is a “not so old oldies”, released 11 years ago on 29 August, 2000, it’s the fourth – and up to date last – album released by the maniacs of Infectious Grooves. Maybe this is not same “classy” as the more notorious “Sarsippius’ Ark”, but as any Mike Muir project and product, it still kicking ass. Not to mention, we’ve got on the bass guitar the murderous Robert Trujillo (ex-Suicidal Tendencies, now Metallica), guitarists Dean Pleasants (also played with Ugly Kid Joe, George Clinton, etc), and Adam Siegel (Excel, Suicidal Tendencies, The Blondes, Eels, etc), and drummer Brooks Wackerman (Vandals, current drummer of Bad Religion).
The title of the album, as written on the album, means “but drunk” in Spanish. However, it most likely is a misspell of “más borracho”, meaning “more drunk” or “drunker”. Be prepared to funk off your ass and punk it up! Read more Infectious Grooves – Mas Borracho (2000)
O.P.E.N. – Let’s Get It On (2010)
Despre britanicii din O.P.E.N. n-am reuşit să dezgrop aproape nimic. Şi-au dat faţă colorată paginii MySpace, dar la capitolul informaţii: zero. Le-am găsit în schimb canalul YouTube.
O.P.E.N. sună ca nedrept uitaţii Mordred din San Francisco, amintesc de Infectious Grooves-ul lui Cyco Miko, au momente care-i invocă pe Primus („What A Lovely Day!”, „L’Homage Du Fromage”) şi pe Red Hot Chilli Peppers până prin 1989. Adică este un amestec revigorant de Funk şi Metal/Rock/Punk. Băieţii pomenesc de influenţe venite de la Estradasphere, Primus, Textures, Mr Bungle, Fishbone, Pantera, Tool, System of a Down, Jimmy Smith, Jimi Hendrix, Meshuggah, Lamb, Russian Circles, Groundation, Them Apples, Secta Rouge, Don Caballero, The Cat Empire, Oceansize, Maybe Myrtle Tyrtle, Dillinger Escape Plan, etc.
