Frustration it’s definitively not that average indie/punk/post-whatever band and although we’re listening to a French band, they sound pretty British-American and bloody intense. Mixing the sound of Iggy and the Stooges, with contorted post-modernist a la Mark E. Smith and The Fall and some Franz Ferdinand/The Enemy type of indie-punk flavors, this Parisian combo find their own path to deliver they heavy, raw and militant post-punk-rock. No compromise, but energy and intensity. Not staying on their knees and becoming a whore of the media and the industry, it’s not only a proof of integrity, but it’s really rare on the music scene lately.
While music became only a secondary sub-product of the music industry, it’s pretty cool to still stumble into some real stuff. And “Uncivilized”, Frustration’s second album was already declared one most important French records released in the past 5 to 10 years. And it makes perfect sense. Just listen to the title track and you will know why this was labeled brutal.
Because it is brutal. And brutally good. Rock’N’Roll make sense again.
Despite little to no press and virtually not at all support from the mainstream media, Frustration plays sold out shows all over the country and achieved to sell over 10,000 copies of their previous record. The reason is quite simple : in 7 years, Frustration grew an audience that is as diverse (punks, clubbers, skinheads, rock dads, workers, new wave amazons, temporary secretaries, fashionistas, you name it) as it is loyal (you WILL see most of their crowd at every damn show) and massive. An audience attracted by intense, sincere and bullshit-free records played by a bunch of intense, sincere and bullshit-free dudes. And that’s about it. No mystical soup, no boring deals. Frustration is a band as strong and good-hearted as a bunch of shirtless kids running in the Cambodia jungle to fight with panthers. And with a record as good as Uncivilized, the future only looks brighter. Even if there is still no media support, Frustration gather more and more fans and if you got the opportunity, you must check them out live. But till then, do yourself a favor and buy “Uncivilized”! Definitively one of the best punk-rock albums of 2013!
Buy it or steal it!!
