While there are not too many woman fronted Rock/Metal bands, it’s pretty hard not to compare those bands to each other. This Parisian band reminds me mostly of the Göttingen based Guano Apes and Sandra Nasić got a serious competitor in Vanessa. Although, she’s got also something from Amy Lee of Evanescence as well, but they also reach out for some of the Portishead’s tumultuous sensuality sometimes. The music of Serments it’s a solid blending of Rock and Metal, a smartly textured braiding of electronic and acoustic elements where heavy riffs and spacious synth layers are efficiently assembled together. Sometimes Pop and Trip-Hop flavored, melodious elements are smartly sneaked into the gloomy and twisted atmospheric trips of the band adding a glamorous, smooth touch to their mainly dark and heavy tones. Also, the band introduced several Metalcore inspired, modern sounds in their mostly 90’s flavored Rock/Metal sound which gives to their rides a further intense and fresh breath.
Formed in 2005, they draw serious attention among the Parisian scene starting with 2007.
Their first 5 title EP ” Gone Away “, completely autoproduced and released in 2008, the group went on stage and met the public with success (Ninkasi Kao, Space B, Pub ADK or even while taking part to the Fallenfest) and share the stage with bands such as Lunatic Age, Madame de Montespan, Hey Hey My My, Devianz, etc.
In spring 2009, the band recorded a much more accomplished and more constructed first album. Completely composed by Vanessa and her guitarist Romain, the album was recorded and mixed by one of the most recommended specialist in the circle, Christian Carvin (Eths, Caedes, Curtiss), at the All Production Studio’s.
Songs like “Prostitute”, “2pm” are some of their powerful, anthematic, driven tracks which makes “Erotic Drive” memorable. The smoothness and sensitivity surfacing in beautiful and shining songs as “X-song” or the obscurely gloomy “Meiga”.
Merging fury and energy with sensitivity and emotion, Serments find the perfectly balanced path to express both love and hate, sometimes simultaneously and indestructible.
“Erotic drive” was released for digital download in 3 versions – black (for the violence face of the band), white (for the ambient one) and color (for both faces), each one featuring different bonus track. All the versions of “Erotic drive” are available from now on legal download and full streaming on Bandcamp. Pick your choice, there is definitively something suitable for you behind this three different sleeves!
