Hatriot – Heroes Of Origin (2013)

Hatriot - Heroes Of Origin (2013) This is a journey back in time. The perfect (metal) time capsule which bring the listener back to the golden age of thrash metal, somewhere between 1986 and 1992. Maybe because this is partly the music of my restless, headbanging youth, maybe because the nowadays fancy metalcore mainly sucks, Hatriot was a quite pleasant surprise. Those wicked riffs sounds familiar, the tempo it’s fast (as a shark!!) and the Hatriot machinery seems unstoppable and exhaustless. And well, who would expect anything less from a legendary singer as Steve “Zetro” Souza? And to have a real bridge over time, there are two other Souza’s involved in the band, Steve’s son, the bass player Cody Souza, and drummer Nicholas Souza. What a murderous family business!! Impact is Imminent!!!

Hatriot-live-2012

“Suicide Run” explode as a grenade and there is no doubt: Hatriot will tear you apart with these “Fabulous Disaster” flavoured, super-fast and sharp as a blade, genuine thrash metal. Kosta Varvatakis’ Slayer perfumed soloing style it’s simply killer. And the riffs he deliver with Miguel Esparza are all bone cutter type of chainsaw massacres.
“Weapons of Class Destruction” it’s a true thrash metal anthem, back in the late 80’s it would be on heavy rotation at the Headbanger’s Ball. It’s a classy and murderous, true destroyer. And the following “Murder American Style” kind of speeding up even more. These guys seems determined to take no prisoners!
“Blood Stained Wings” have that sharp edge of the best Exodus/Overkill grindings from the beginning of the 90’s.
This is the spirit which running through the veins of the whole album, each song have it’s own hook, memorable riffs, double bass drum butcheries, and the maniac singing style of Steve “Zetro” Souza, a distinctive trademark of everything he delivered. This this killer works impeccably. Each song it’s an anthem, there are no fills, no bitching, no time to breath. Although the music it’s from the last century, the sound it’s beefy, powerful and heavier then ever.
This album would be a crown on the thrash metal king’s head back in their glory days, wonder how many people are still interested, still listening this type of good-old-fashioned, but still murderous, truly fast and furious metal. Definitively there are still “clients” for this type of metal and when the quality it’s undeniably top as in the case of Hatriot, no doubt, it will be viral among the fans of the genre. And maybe not only. Eventually the teenagers of today will be surprised by the power of these riffs and will discover an universe of speed and brutality which was declared dead and gone by many long time ago. Well, it wasn’t that gone, and definitively it’s not dead!!

Steve Zetro Souza has once again stepped into the thrash metal world, and has made an immediate impact on the thrash metal scene. The veteran metal singer from such proven bands, i.e., Exodus, Legacy (Testament), Dublin Death Patrol, Tenet, AC/DZ and now with his newest band Hatirot takes his musical roots back in time to the 1980’s when metal was fast, furious, yet still melodic. Still from the Bay Area (which happens to be the evolutionary birthplace of thrash metal) is what sets Hatriot apart from today’s metal world. Not many bands have been able to establish themselves as contenders in this genre since the biggest bands emerged from this time period, but few bands have the musical direction of Steve Zetro Souza, who have been there and done it with global success.
Steve Zetro Souza has a vocal style that few sings possess. He has the power and sting, yet at the same time, his fans can understand what lyric’s he’s actually singing. Not many singers in thrash metal can give you that. Most of all, Zetro delivers! He has his own style that has made him one of the premier singers in all of metal. As when he was with Legacy (now Testament), Steve Zetro Souza writes all of his own twisted lyrics, and with the help of his young guitar wizard, Kosta “V”, the two of them collaborate to bring you the music of Hatriot. Few bands can be fast, loud, powerful and ferocious, while staying musical, melodical and crushing. Hatriot gives you that, along with the pure intensity of a hungry band that wants nothing more than to tour and play live music to fans.
Hatriot, never satisfied with the newer trends in the metal scene, has re-discovered that going back in time, making quality “old school” metal with a proven formula that only Steve Zetro Souza could form and re-invent for this modern era, has put together a band who understands this direction, has perfect chemistry and hits the stage light a freight train! Hatriot, faster than you’ll ever live to be!!!
In 2010 Hatriot released their much anticipated self-titeled and self-released, debut EP, which featured 4 brand new songs.
Already, the band has earned worldwide respect having supported Testament and Forbidden. While only playing three live shows, Hatriot has broken out of the Bay Area metal scene with a vengeance. The band finally singed to Massacre Records and “Heroes Of Origin” it’s their middle finger showed up to the newer trends and the so-called metal(core) scene of today.
