What the hell is “transhuman”? Transhuman is “the study of the ramifications, promises, and potential dangers of technologies that will enable us to overcome fundamental human limitations, and the related study of the ethical matters involved in developing and using such technologies.” Shit, this are heavy stuffs. Believer is an American band formed in the late 80s and early 90s and from their thrash metal roots they grow into a post metal, progressive metal area and this “Transhuman” is their fifth full-length album which is set to be released on April 11, 2011 on Metal Blade Records. They put together 12 complex and intense songs, solid and strong thrash like guitar riffs and constructions are placed into a much wider progressive/post metal area, the technical elements are built in into a gloomy and atmospheric universe. Dream Theater back in 2003 on their album “Train of Thoughts” were kind of close to this sound and approach.
Believer painted a dark and cold world, a scary future with extremely truthful present. Kurt Bachman is able to sing clear and harmonic lines, but he’s voice kept the typical aggressive approach of the classic thrash singers as well. Balancing between these two direction, the universe build by Believer is realistic and pretty intense, spacy moments and nervous accents are flowing and shifting intelligently. Its a powerful release and definitively a step forward in the career of this band, the strongest release this band has ever put out.
