This was a series of concerts started on October 31, 2012 by Guns N’ Roses celebrating 25 years from the release of their 28 million copies worldwide selling album “Appetite for Destruction” (1987), album which reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200, including the super-hit “Sweet Child o’ Mine”, their only single to reach No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100; and four years since the release of their latest album “Chinese Democracy” (2008). The last of this shows was on June 7, 2014 in The Joint at Las Vegas, also part of their second residency at The Joint titled “No Trickery! An Evening of Destruction” consisted in 9 shows.
Produced by Barry Summers from Rock Fuel Media was filmed live at The Joint at the Hard Rock Casino in Las Vegas on November 21, 2012, and it was filmed entirely in Full HD/3D. The recording includes 25 songs, all the classic Guns N’ Roses hits, but also a few surprises as the guitar solo and track by guitarist Tommy Stinson or the Pink Floyd cover “Another Brick in the Wall Part 2”. 2 hours and 43 minutes of wild, irresistible Guns N’ Roses.
This is also the first live DVD release of Guns N’ Roses since Use Your Illusion I and Use Your Illusion II in 1992. It was released in 3 different formats: Standard Amaray DVD – full show and bonus interviews; Standard 3D Blu-ray – 3D & 2D on 1 disc and Digital Long Form – full content available for digital download and via Mobile App.
“Appetite for Destruction” appeared in Rolling Stone magazine’s special issue at the 62nd place of their “The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time”. The album was ranked 32 on Rock Hall of Fame’s ‘definitive 200′ album list, developed by the NARM, the National Association of Recording Merchandisers. VH1 named “Appetite for Destruction” the 42nd Greatest Album of All Time.
“Appetite for Destruction” was placed No. 2 on Guitar World magazine’s list of the 100 Greatest Guitar Albums of All Time. Kerrang! ranked the album #1 on the list of best rock albums.
In Q magazine “Appetite for Destruction” was named as one of the 50 Heaviest Albums of All Time. Q magazine also named the album as one of the greatest Classic rock Albums Ever.
On the other hand, “Chinese Democracy” debuted at number three on the Billboard 200 and being certified Platinum by the RIAA, still, did not managed to have the success of its predecessors – probably mainly due to the delay of its release. Former member Duff McKagan praised the album, saying that “Axl sounds amazing” and “I think Axl’s finally made the record he always wanted to”, while Slash reacted positively to the title track, and after the full album was released, the guitarist only said it was “exactly what I thought it would sound like”.
On April 14, 2012, former Guns N’ Roses members Slash, Duff McKagan, Gilby Clarke, Steven Adler and Matt Sorum all reunited at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Axl Rose released an official statement via Guns N’ Roses’ official Facebook page, announcing that he would not be attending the ceremony. He’s former band-mates performed “Mr. Brownstone”, “Sweet Child o’ Mine”, and “Paradise City” with Alter Bridge and Slash’s band vocalist Myles Kennedy in Rose’s absence.
In June 2012, NME reported that Guns N’ Roses’ tour security said they had been instructed by Guns N’ Roses management that anyone wearing a Slash t-shirt not be allowed into the tour venue.
Don’t know, but I kind of start loving this “new” Guns N’ Roses much more and I definitively lost my interest in the things Slash and any other former member do lately. It’s another question if Axe and his band will be able to write an album which will be same intense as “Appetite for Destruction” or same brilliant throughout as the double “Use Your Illusion”. Probably hardly, but seeing this guys rocking live was great, not only because they bring back some great memories, but because they sound genuine and feels like they really enjoy what they are doing. The band it’s fabulous and Axl sings good, he eventually lost a few pounds too.
And the show it’s simply great!! Show girls, flying piano, circus acts and rock’n’roll!! Yeah!! Love this!
