Mello + Landini is a collaboration between Brazil-based artists Janiana Mello and Daniel Landini. Together, they create an on-going series of installations called Ciclotrama, which consist of intertwining ropes that twist and unwind into organic forms like roots and trees.
To the artists, Ciclotramas illustrates the passage of time. The multi-strand cables can form one line, or they can fracture into separate trajectories that take on their own characteristics. Read more Ciclotrama – installations
In celebration of the recent Malta Street Art Festival, artist Leon Keer created an anamorphic painting of sweet treats. Giant gummy bears grace a boardwalk in Valletta, and they’re crafted in a 3D style that, when viewed from above, makes them appear as if they’re standing upright. To produce this illusion, Keer skewed his painting—the bears look warped when you’re standing next to them, but are in proportion once you’re more than 10 meters high. Coupled with crisp shading, the candies have a striking, realistic presence that looks almost natural among the people passing by. Read more Giant 3D Paintings of Gummy Bears
Italian artist Peter Demetz brings ordinary wood to life with his incredible, hand-carved figures. The sculptures, which vary in size from about 20 inches to nearly 50 inches tall, feature men, women, and children standing still against a plain, sometimes-colored background. Demetz’s attention to detail is awe-inspiring. He’s able to shape tiny folds in clothing, reproduce loose strands of hair, and define the human anatomy so well that you’d think these figures really exist. Artist David Schwen has a way of using minimalism, incorporating everyday objects, and making the end result so awesome that it hurts.
Schwen’s recent “How To” series is a perfect example of this. Created for The Daily Share, the series takes a few well-known sandwiches and lunch items, breaks them down into parts, and presents them segmented on a vintage lunch tray.
