“Love Like War”, the free download and leading track of the new album, “From the Void to the Infinite” was released last month and back than I introduced the band of Phil D. from Lyon, France, find the whole story HERE . Still can grab the free track. 🙂 Or buy the entire new album on-line HERE. 10 tracks, plus one bonus, the new album by PORN scheduled for a 10th October, 2011 release juggling between the vivid sound of the 80’s dark electro and the pulsing breath of the nowadays post-industrial rock and it’s an excellent soundtrack to set the night on fire down in the club dancing with the death. By duty. 😀
“I Died Twice” opening the new album, it’s a powerful mixture of power pop electronics and industrial rock, reminding me more of Skinny Puppy, smooth, gentle layers are merged with pulsing guitars, the rocking sound incorporate nice harmonies, quite singable, anthematic choruses and generally speaking, this is what Phil D. and PORN does best and deliver subsequently.
“Not with a Bang” reminds me somehow of The Cure, but it’s wrapped in a more crushing and electric package and it’s banging in a different direction. The powerful guitar riffs and the colorful sampler layers create a specific PORN atmosphere.
“Love like War” seems like a time capsule which landing back in the warm and vivid mood of the 80s, but simultaneously it sounds fresh and extremely familiar. The gentle piano and the electric pulse make a nice pair.
“We are weapons (Shoot your Header)” bring back the noisier industrial rock side of the band, this is an extremely groovy one with a quite singable and memorable chorus.
“Nothing like You” is a two minutes experiment of rhythms and noises, dark and somehow unexpected, but fits right in the spirit of the album.
“The Machineries of Joy” might be an industrial rock anthem in the vein of Filter. Riffs and synths pulsing together on a fabulous groove and the chorus makes you jump up and scream.
“Same old Story” is another twist into the wild side, experimental noises, contorted rhythms are rotating around in a dizzy construction.
“A Duty Dance with Death” relay on another pulsing riff and some musculous sampler layers, gentle and dark moments are combined with the explosive, rocking ones, danceable rhythms and heavy guitars making an excellent work together.
“In the Wrong Lane” combines smoothly new wave like synth and sampler layers with a cutting edge riff and everything seems to be in the right place, the exotic aroma of the chorus reminds me a little bit of Gary Numan’s “Jagged”.
“No Dominion” kicking out with some exciting percussion, it’s an incursion into the hypnotic shady side of the music, smooth and dark colors waving around mysteriously building up a subtle song.
“Lullaby X” – sounds familiar? “The spiderman is having me for dinner tonight!” This is a contorted reinterpretation of the classic The Cure song from their 1989’s album “Disintegration”. PORN added some industrial taste, but managed to keep the original song’s gloominess. Excellent job.
