Tanzwut – White Nights (2011)

What results from the mixture of bagpipes, medieval and folk elements and industrial metal? Tanzwut. Originated as a sideproject of Corvus Corax-members, a German band playing Neo-Medieval music using an abundance of authentic instruments which often uses bagpipes as the solo instrument, and in 1996 they released the EP “Tanzwut” which combined the elements of metal music with their brand sound of bagpipes. The CD turned out to be a commercially successful experiment and the band decided to continue the tradition of that album in a separate musical project called Tanzwut and became part of the Neue Deutsche Härte movement. In few words: Rammstein with bagpipes.
“Weiße Nächte” is the project’s fifth studio album released on 16th September 2011.

Their name is the German term for “dancing mania”, but is directly translated with “dance-rage”. Teufel (vocals, bagpipe), Martin Ukrasvan (guitar, davul), Der Zwilling (bass, bagpipe); Ardor (Bagpipes, shawm); Thrymr (Bagpipes, shawm); Jagbird (keyboard, e-drums, drums); Shumon (drums) delivered another dynamic blending of medieval sound and gloomy atmosphere build upon bagpipes and modern, cutting metal themes supported by cutting edge riffs, pounding drums and pumping bass. A quite unique and dynamic mixture, dark and intense, traditional and modern simultaneously.

“Bagpipe players Teufel, Ardor and Thrymr are completed by Holzwurm and Der Zwilling. Drummer Martin Ukrasvan will be supported by Shumon and Jagbird who will raise the stage together. As one of the scene’s primary rocks, Teufel has been wandering all over as musician, composer, juggler and entertainer since 25 years now. A treasury of songs and unmistakable bagpipe melodies which where compiled in the last quarter century, stirring rhythms and catchy singings rounded down by Teufels distinctive voice will enchant the audience and lead them to the living medieval times. Amusing announcers and colorful costumes will make the appearance up for your ears and eyes. Nevertheless, new compositions will also fresh up the program.” (from their official MySpace)
