If you’re familiar – and in love – with tumultuous, turbulent musical project such as Fantômas, Tomahawk, Moonchild Trio and Mr. Bungle, generally speaking, if you like the mainly twisted and contorted avant-garde experiments of Mr. Mike Patton, Krakatau might just fit your taste and extremely important: this self-titled full-length debut album is available for FREE DOWNLOAD at the band’s official web site.
This is metal only if you’re not committed to Iron Maiden or Metallica, don’t think that “progressive metal” means exclusively Dream Theater. Say (vocals/guitar), Muz! (bass/vocals), Max (lead guitar) and Mark (drums) expands the horizons and sometimes construct music by demolition. Sometimes hypnotic, other times quite schizophrenic, Krakatau is actually an explosive music volcano, this might not be a safe trip, but eventually an exciting one.

“Krakatau was formed in Moscow in 2004, inspired by the experiments of Mike Patton, and other worthy guru, so the band has always been close to the spirit of musical freedom. As result it immediately attracted the attention of fans of alternative music. Hallmarks of Krakatau may assume conceptualism, provocative, absurdism. Their sound has developed from an experimental, dirty and hypnotic sound that is at times closer to the refined music lovers. Last April Krakatau released their new self-titled album. The album is full of contradictions and dissonances … Sound of the album easily causes a pleasant state of trance, with psychodelic deep sound, with contrasts based on roughness and toughness of musical passages. This album definitely has its own unique vision of this world, and even more, it has … It’s better to listen to this album at least once to realize how it close, how it understandable, how much it expands your horizons of vision of the world of music… and vision in general … ” (Official Bio)
10 songs, a psychotic and intense trip to the outer limits of metal, this is an extremely interesting material from an absolutely exciting Russian band. They singing in Russian, but that doesn’t bother me at all, just like Rammstein proved with their exclusively German approach, English is not exclusively the language of rock and sometimes some other languages (German, Russian, Turkish, Hungarian, etc) might sounds quite interesting and add a different taste and charm to the music.
Krakatau delivered a very exciting material, download it and listen it, it worth every second of it. Angry riffings, funky basses, pounding drums or abstract tripping, industrial layers or noisy breaks, you’ve got it all.
And quite important: good music have no frontiers.
