Back in 1999 Clemens Mayr of black metal outfit Amortis decided to put together something different, the project originally entitled Project Judgement. Using some heavy riffs delivered by his band mates, guitarist Lukas Lindenberger and Simon Mayr and some electronic textures and layers, the style of the new band was set. The debut album, “Desperate Accuse Dimension” was released in 2002, featuring Roman Lindenberger – guitar and Lukas Lindenberger – drum programming. Mayr later considered this album too Gothic oriented and not enough experimental, so only one year later they released their second full-length album called “The Near Life Experience” which was much better produced and sound closer to the original ideas of Mayr.
The band was on hiatus from mid 2004 till mid 2006, since Mayr started writing new songs with Martin Zeller (ex-Third Moon).
“Space Age Revolution” consist of 10 songs, intense electronic music merged with modern heavy metal. Featuring guest appearance by female vocalist Johanna Supan and a cover of the German dance-act Scooter, this is a colourful material where traditional elements are re-wired to modern textures and sounds and the quite Germanic marching-metal sounds breathing and healthy, powerful and epic, coloured with the modern electronica. Interesting mixture, good sound and a couple of great moments.
Unfortunately, once again, there’s also an American metal band sharing the same Shadowcast name, and it seems they are not the only one. It’s not quite inspired and bad for… business.
