Samael was a hell of a guy! 😆 😆 😆 Actually an important archangel in Talmudic and post-Talmudic lore, a figure who is accuser, seducer and destroyer, and has been regarded as both good and evil. Also called Sammael and Samil, he is considered in legend both a member of the heavenly host with often grim and destructive duties and a fallen angel, equatable with Satan and the chief of the evil spirits. One of Samael’s greatest roles in Jewish lore is that of the angel of death. In this capacity he is a fallen angel but nevertheless remains one of the Lord’s servants. As a good angel, Samael supposedly resides in the seventh heaven, although he is declared to be the chief angel of the fifth heaven. It is said that he was the guardian angel of Esau and a patron of the Roman empire.
In “The Holy Kabbalah” by Arthur Edward Waite, Samael is described as the “severity of God”, and is listed as fifth of the archangels of the world of Briah. Samael is said to have taken Lilith as his bride after she left Adam.
In the Apocryphon of John, found in the Nag Hammadi library, Samael is the third name of the demiurge, whose other names are Yaldabaoth and Saklas. In this context, Samael means “the blind god”.
Good to know, isn’t it? 😀 Read, learn, educate yourself, otherwise you will die dumber than you were born. Knowledge is the only thing that nobody ever can take it away from you and more as you know you will realize that less you know… But anyway!
Switzerland – for some – means banks, fancy clocks, cows, perhaps chocolate. For others maybe Celtic Frost. For initiate ones.
Well, the band named Samael came also from Switzerland and they are an early 2nd wave black metal band and one of the innovators for post-black metal styles. Formed in 1987 in Sion, Switzerland, they released several demos, kicked off from similar approach to that of Celtic Frost, and from the slow, doomy style of thrash metal with raw vocals and evolved in the direction of combining black metal sounds with use of the keyboards to the periphery of industrial-style music.
Their fourth studio album, “Passage”, released in 1996 bring them a larger audience and the music video for the song “Jupiterian Vibe” getting airplay on MTV’s Headbanger’s Ball.
The current line-up of the band includes Vorphalack (Vorph) – vocals and guitar, his brother, Xytraguptor (Xy) – live and programmed drums, keyboards, samples, Masmiseim (Mas) – bass (ex-Alastis) and Makro (Mak) – guitar. “Lux Mundi” is their ninth forthcoming studio album and the album’s first single titled “Antigod” has been released on November 19, 2010.
In these 12 brand new, noisy songs, Samael brings and deliver their best, and you can listen into them on their official Facebook page.
Samael have a kind of ancient fire, primal force, black and dark, epic sounds are merged with heavy guitar riffs, raw vocals and colorful industrial textures. “Lux Mundi” is another intense, crushing and swaggering incursion in the heavy and dark side of the modern metal. A brilliant release with 12 exclusive pearls.
