It’s almost an irony, or eventually the reward of hard years of work and stubbornness, although Kreator was founded as Tyrant in 1982 in Essen, Germany, they released their murderous debut album “Endless Pain” in 1985, many of their previous albums were quite popular in Europe, Japan and even in the United States, the commercial success came only with the 2009 release of their twelfth studio album, “Hordes of Chaos”, which peaked at number 165 on the Billboard 200 and debuted at #16 on the Media Control Charts, the band’s highest ever chart position in Germany.
So, both, expectations and hopes are pretty high regarding their 13th studio album, “Phantom Antichrist” released through Nuclear Blast in June 2012.
Mille Petrozza (vocals, guitar) and his crew of thrashers, Jürgen “Ventor” Reil – drums and vocals, Christian “Speesy” Giesler – bass, and guitarist Sami Yli-Sirniö, delivered one of the most solid, most well build-up and forged together album of their career. “Phantom Antichrist” and its 10 tracks are classy and incorporates everything what is essential about this band. It’s almost a classic Heavy Metal album re-located in the most grinding Thrash patterns of the end of the 80’s, beginning of the 90’s. Very retro taste-like, almost conservationist, but banging and authentic, filled with cutting riffs, pounding drums, horde choruses, speeding tempos – all the ingredients of a murderous Thrash Metal masterpiece.
Fans of Kreator will devour it, but eventually this will bring several new fans of the band, this is much better even then their highly successful previous release.
