In the Stars

My mom had a sizeable vinyl record collection, something unusual in the circumstances of an almost total lockdown under Ceaușescu’s dictatorial regime in the 70s and 80s Romania. She had all kinds of records, from classical music to punk rock. I grew up with music. Eventually, I joined several bands and worked on several projects. I still have a keyboard, and occasionally I love to play and write music, although I would not call myself a musician. I
I started collecting and trading records when I was 16.
One record I bought around 1987-1988 was Rolling Stone’s Black and Blue, originally released in 1976. Most likely it is not the critic’s choice, but definitely one of my favourite Stone’s albums.
The highly anticipated, then-acclaimed Hackney Diamonds left me indifferent. I found that record overly Americanised in the cheesiest way. While their lead single’s video, Angry has now over 43 million views, I found the song mediocre at best and the video marginally disgusting. Sydney Sweeney represents everything that’s wrong with Hollywood. Anyway, I’m a bugger, I know!
Coming into the now, out of the blue, Mick, Keith, and Ronnie are back.
First, I heard Rough and Twisted, a relatively straightforward classic rock song with nothing truly remarkable, except for a healthy guitar riff.
Then came In the Stars, which smashed it.

Nowadays, artists seem unable to compose catchy choruses. In the Stars will stick instantly and echo in your ears for days.
It sounds fantastic, but with Stone’s money and the current technology, it is not surprising.
Speaking of technology, the video was created using Deep Voodoo’s groundbreaking deepfake technology, modelling the Stones from the 1970s performing alongside musicians, singers, and dancers from different eras, cultures, and subcultures.
I’m looking forward to July 10 and “Foreign Tongues.”

“Some people seek their fortune on the turn of a card
Or throwing some bones in a whiskey glass
‘Cause if you wanna seek your fortune, need a lot of luck
I was standing there when the lightning struck

I feel a heavy hand
Tangling with my plans

It’s in the stars, it’s our destiny
It’s in the stars, written you and me
It’s in the stars, it’s no mystery, yeah
It’s in the stars, written you and me”

One small suggestion from a non-native English speaker: instead of “whisky glass,” a “whisky jar” would have sounded tastier. Cheers Mick!
