Progressive metal became pretty much synonymous with Dream Theater. It’s probably not fair, but it’s a fact. EtHERSENS it’s a French progressive metal project and “Your wandering ghost” it’s their second album after considerable a six year gap.
While the opening, almost 10 minutes long “Two For One Mind” evoke the mentioned Dream Theater spirit and it’s an intense and powerful progressive metal hurricane, the following “Same Goodbye” merge some dark, shoegaze flavored atmosphere and ambiances with the classy Porcupine Tree flavor. Another name which came up in my mind was Pain Of Salvation.
So, this is not a one track-mind type of band and not a one track type of album. And the album it’s intense and colorful throughout, make the listener to listen, keep the interest alive from riff to riff, from break to break. They not only created a positive tension and expectation, but delivered exciting, quality music. Give it a shot! Songs like “Livin’ Memory” will definitively ringing in your ears and will make you wanna listen more!

EtHERSENS was formed in 2002 in the city of Toulouse, southern France, by guitar players and friends Johan and Mika. At first it is a way to have some fun playing music together, but after several line-up, this project become a serious band with the arrival one year after of Steph on drums, Fred on bass guitar and Stephane on vocals, we’re back in 2003.
Due to years of attempts, working with several other bands like Eryn Non Dae, Zubrowska, Talian, Disphoria or Eradykate, the band know where to go and the decision is made to focus on making an album more than begining with demos or playing live to find a way.
So, while composing, EtHERSENS decide to record all by themselves during 2005/2006.
The result is called “Ordinary Days”, released in 2008 through Italian label Scarlet Records, and set the begining of the band’s way to introduce their music where lyrics, artwork, words, colours and every single note is a part of a whole thing.
However, after several concerts EtHERSENS change their line-up which sets back all their projects.
Indeed, Stephane and Fred leave the band in 2009. Laurent take the place of Stephane on vocals and the bass player Remy join the rest of the band few months later.
Then, they are ready to compose some new material, while playing some gigs here and there so they can let people know they’re still alive !
Greatly influenced by metal on their first album, EtHERSENS now turn towards a lighter and more intense atmosphere inspired by alternative rock bands such as Porcupine Tree, Karnivool but also Pearl Jam, Alice In Chains…
Finally, in January 2013, EtHERSENS record their new album “Your Wandering Ghost” with Julien Soula at Antistatic Studios.
The second full length album is a concept album with a whole story that runs through eight tracks. It talks about a relationship between two people which takes a tragic turn, a story about a lost love which tends to re-born into death, regrets and sorrow. So, a dark topic for a music that waves between something smooth, ethereal, in a sensitive climate and also something full of tension and angry.
EtHERSENS had been through hard times to give birth to that new album, some moments that – for sure – give this album its raw and abrasive feeling.
