Celldweller – Soundtrack For The Voices In My Head Vol 2, Chapter 02 (2012)

The hybrid fusion of aggressive electronic music with orchestral and rock influences now get to the next level of destruction by bringing in the big guns of dubstep, wobbling bass and frequency oscillations, deadly drops and explosive noises combined with orchestral and rock flows makes this new instrumental collection murderous. “ShutEmDown” is one of the most killer tracks I heard lately and it was used in the Ghost Rider 2 movie trailer. The Latin-spiced electro “Senorita Bonita” it’s also a favorite.
“The Wings of Icarus” was used in the Real Steel movie trailer, while “Earth Scraper” was used in the Assassin’s Creed: Revelations “Combat Trailer”.
Scott Albert, known as Klayton, multi-instrumentalist and the sole member of Celldweller was a former frontman and songwriter for the bands Circle of Dust, Argyle Park and Angeldust gained a devoted cult following in the mid 90s through his industrial metal band Circle of Dust.

The self-titled Celldweller debut album saw release in early 2003 and debuted at #17 on Billboard’s Internet Sales Chart.
In December 2008, Klayton released “Soundtrack for the Voices in My Head Vol. 1”, a collection consisting primarily of short, instrumental score-based compositions. The songs were culled from the hundreds of demos in Klayton’s extensive archives and represented work that he felt was not suited for a premier Celldweller album but rather for theatrical use. Celldweller’s management has sought to have these songs placed in media, like those on the debut album, and several have already been heard on film and television and in video games.
Chapter 02 of Soundtrack for the Voices in My Head Vol. 2 will be released on the 14th of February, 2012 and pre-orders of Live Upon a Blackstar will begin on the same day.

  1. I like Celldweller. Not like I like NIN but I like it. There’s a lot of great stuff in Celldweller’s music but I find it all very ‘clinical’ and lacking in *soul* or *feeling* or *atmosphere*. I admire Klayton mostly for his amazing production and engineering skills. None of his songs have ever haunted me and dropped into my mind while on a bus or something. Music is largely about how it makes you FEEL. And I don’t FEEL much with klayton’s work when the track has finished.

I have remixed two of his tracks and it was hard work because everything is so precisely written – not much room to play around. Right there you see the problem. No room for anyone (the listener, I mean) to interpret any mood other than what Klayton dictates. He is doing himself a disfavour.

I’ll like him a lot more when he lightens up a bit. (When he gets older.)

    Nice review, sir 🙂

    • I like Celldweller too, but…. I don’t know, maybe you’re right, sounds huge, but not much space left for anything else and kind of strangely, nothing stick to my mind so far. I had myself few attempts to remix some, but I failed, never finished, but definitively I will keep on trying.
“ShutEmDown” is definitively a cutting one and maybe one song which might stick to my brain. Anyway, perfect for a score of a film or game.

  2. He is of course, as you say, used in countless films and video games.

The trouble is, that is disposable music.

Maybe he’s on to something. He certainly isn’t poor from his work. But personally, I really couldn’t be satisfied writing tomorrow’s trash.
