“You know, the world is a crazy place, and we live in troubled times, but despite our differences, the one thing that all of us have in common, is that we all have a birthday. My piano player Bobby Ricotta over there, he has a birthday. Frank Feta has a birthday. Billy Bleu has a birthday. And so do I. Mine is July 11. Feel free to have your sister send me photos.” Well, in few – and his own – words, this is Richard Cheese all about. Cheer up our day swinging. Musician and comedian, still can’t figure out which one comes first, Richard Cheese and his killer Lounge Against the Machine made up of talented guys named all with pseudonyms that refer to types of cheese such as (Bobby) Ricotta, (Frank) Feta and (Billy) Bleu performing mainly popular songs in a lounge/swing style reminiscent of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, and Tony Bennett since 2000.
Last time in May some British guys was outraged by my review about “Live At The Royal Wedding”, well, humor seems to be more and more rare quality isn’t it? Mainly Brits lately have fun shoegazing, so, what can I say? Guys, do not fuckin’ listening to “Careless Whisper” and jump over these few lines from “Richard Cheese’s New Birthday Song”: “It’s Elton’s birthday / What a great gay” 😆 😆 😆

This time Cheese maybe is not so bright. Still have a few better moments. It’s fun to listening he’s versions for Scorpions’ “Rock You Like A Hurricane”, Rage Agains the Machine’s “Killing In The Name”, Lionel Richie’s “Hello”, Ke$ha’s “Tik Tok”, George Michael’s “Careless Whisper” or The Black Eyed Peas’ “Boom Boom Pow”. Songs from quite different genres all blended into swing/lounge. Nice.
Nice, but not brilliant as some of his previous albums such as “Lounge Against the Machine” (2000), “Tuxicity” (2002), “I’d Like a Virgin” (2004) or “Aperitif for Destruction” (2005).
Looking forward for “Back In Black Tie” and more fun.
