Caliban have released seven studio albums to-date, and two split albums with the band Heaven Shall Burn. The band was formed in Hattingen, Germany in 1997 under the name Never Again and after half a year of rehearsals and a two song demo, Lifeforce Records was the first to offer the band a record deal. Since, they toured and share the scene with bands including Morning Again, Earth Crisis, Cro-Mags, Slayer, Poison the Well, Hatebreed, Pantera, Machine Head, Biohazard, Morbid Angel, Bloodjinn, All Shall Perish, Bleeding Through, I Killed The Prom Queen, Kreator, Suicide Silence, Maroon, Emmure and After the Burial. Blending metal and deathcore, Calibian are a powerful, full of energy modern metal combo.
Caliban entered the studio in February to record a cover EP titled “Coverfield” and if everything will go as they planned, during this summer the band will return to the studio to finish writing and recording a new full length album scheduled to be released in the Fall.
Track list:
1. My Girlfriend’s Girlfriend (originally by Type O Negative)
2. Sonne (originally by Rammstein)
3. Blinded By Fear (originally by At The Gates)
4. Helter Skelter (originally by The Beatles)
This four track, limited release EP, it’s a pretty good taster for what Caliban sounds like and they actually done an interesting job covering these songs in their intense style. “My Girlfriend’s Girlfriend” may be a homage to Peter Steel, the Rammstein classic sounds obviously much heavier (deather), Helter Skelter never had a this-like, Pantera crushing closing. Beside the fact I like (good) covers, this is a brutal, intense and grinding collection of songs.
