I promise I will do my best to keep it short as it is possible. I am aware that these days, the modern man loses its focus in only a few sentences and, generally speaking, his or her interest resume to the headlines.
We are on the verge of the new Cold War or something much worst.
Last summer, I was notified by email that Indigogo would operate some important updates regarding their payments system. What actually Indigogo do is an act of withdrawal. Practically they will restrict the access to the platform for creators from several countries, including the country of my current residency, Romania. After August 12th, 2019, Indigogo will be accessible only for creators residents in the following countries: US, UK, Canada, Australia, Hong Kong (China campaigns may be eligible), Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Germany, Finland, France, Republic of Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland.
I have contacted the Indigogo customer service for further explanations. The answer was clumsy and shocking: “You may be unable to create a campaign because the country selection you’ve entered is not be supported by our payment processor, Stripe.” In other words, Indigogo claims, respectively put the blame, on a third party, a subcontractor for a major business decision they made. However, Stripe accepts payments from all over the world, which technically means that they can process all these payments, but do not want to process payments to other than a selected few countries.
I would understand and eventually accept their explanation if they would not accept contributions from other countries than the one listed above, but they accept and process payments from all over the world, only restricted the access to their platform for creators. I consider this action insulting and deeply discriminatory.
One day you’re on the list, the next day you’re off. Simple like that!
Please allow me to elaborate a little bit. As the United State has 50 states, the European Union has 28 countries. However, only 11 of them are listed and granted access. It is like you arbitrarily would decide it that you will enable the access to your platform for creators from Massachusetts but reject those from Alaska. Respectively, the so-called red states are allowed, but the blue ones are rejected. The Indigogo management, by the hand of Stripe, put back Europe to the state of the European Communities, as it was stipulated by the Treaty of Paris in 1951 and the Treaty of Rome of 1957. It reduces Europe to Austria, Belgium, Germany, Finland, France, Republic of Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Denmark, Norway and Switzerland.
We have been there already – the almighty Churchill traded half of Europe to Stalin in October 1944 in Moscow. This time, however, it is not that clear who sold what to whom and, most importantly, why? What I know for sure is that humanity is on the wrong path heading in the wrong direction. Again.
Do you ever wonder why the Wall of Berlin felt in 1989? Because both capitalism and socialism have failed. It was never about democracy, human rights, freedom of whatever; it was always and exclusively about money. The West, on the one hand, overproduced and had an over-saturated market, the East on the other, was anxious to absorb everything coming from West. Apparently, it was a win-win situation. However, the West only earned a couple of years of extension to find a solution for its systematic problems. I would estimate that this period could be somewhat between 29 and 49 years. I predict that a great depression would occur in 2037, which is exactly 48 years. I used a very simple mathematical formula which so far proved to be terrifyingly accurate.
The ‘blue pill’, ‘red pill’ formula does not work, and it never did. Keep doing the same thing, making the same mistakes, applying the same formulas and expecting different outcomes, is stupid. Dividing people, countries, ideologies into blue and red, respectively good and evil, generating artificial conflicts, does not fix the issue. Being divided and standing in opposition it was, it is, and it will be the wrong decision. The only true option is collaboration and finding a way out together. However, we have been educated and cultivated for thousands of years to compete with each other instead of working together for the mutual benefit.
The “new world” looks more and more alike to Orwell’s world depicted in his dystopian novel Nineteen Eighty-Four. With the Brexit and the U.K. out of the European Union, we have the outlines of Oceania. With Merkel and Macron under the spell of Putin, we have the outline for Eurasia. China may be identified as Eastasia, while South America, unlike in Orwell’s book, is still heavily disputed area. Humans, in their narrowmindedness and smallness, always started wars to resolve their crises. War is the only method, and quite profitable as well, to solve all their issues.
I am afraid we still do not have the wisdom and maturity to make the right choices.

English Dogs are a British hardcore punk band that began life in the early eighties. “This is not a war?” was released in 1995 on the album All the World’s a Rage (Impact Records, 1995). The song is the fourth track of the album. It was also the title track of a compilation album released in 2002.
