I Used To Be A Sparrow – You Are An Empty Artist (2013)

I Used To Be A Sparrow You Are An Empty Artist 2013 From Västerås, Sweden, I Used To Be A Sparrow are back with their second full-length album and they gonna take you in their clear-obscure dream world made up of indie rock shreddings, shoegazer flavoured epic and bitter-sweet escapades and dream-pop hooks. Scandinavian quality, hypnotic and melodious, simple and smart, soulful, but simultaneously efficient.
The duo of Dick Pettersson and Andrea Caccese find their own path drawing inspiration from quite different bands such as Explosions in The Sky, Minus The Bear, Mew, Pedro The Lion, Last Days of April, Kent, Coldplay, Radiohead, The Ataris, The Beatles, Angels and Airwaves, Thrice, Anberlin, Tom Waits, Fleetwood Mac, Foo Fifghters, The Chariot, Kent; Dinosaur Jr., Sebadoh, Built to Spill, This will destroy you; …And you will know us by the trail of death, Japandroids, Minor Threat, The Replacements, Slipknot, And you will know us by the trail of death, Lucero, Ramones, Bon Iver, Tallhart, The Gaslight Anthem, etc.

“You Are An Empty Artist” it’s a sensitive incursion in a world of cloudy dreams and hypnotic melodies, eventually a magic mixture of OK Go and dEUS with Sigur Rós. My favorites are the gentle “Submarine”, the fastest “Blindfolded”, the electro-flavoured “Warpaint On Invisible Children”, the friendly “Skinny Leaves” and the closing “July”. Smooth, chill, nice, excellent for laying on the couch on a Sunday afternoon and doing nothing, just drown into the sea of music.

With such a poetic shot at their name, I Used To Be A Sparrow is a unique compromise between the honest urgency of a garage band and the powerful impact of an arena rock act.
The duo of Dick Pettersson and Andrea Caccese is all about taking chances and following their guts when it comes to their music: swapping stories, songs and favorite records quickly turned into a prolific song-writing partnership as the Västerås pair managed to record their debut album within a few months since the band’s inception.
One year later, the Swedish indie-rockers are ready to pick up from where they left off with their sophomore album You are an empty artist.
The duo of Dick Pettersson and Andrea Caccese created an act that embodies a compromise between the urgency of a garage band and the impact of arena rock. Their second album “You Are An Empty Artist” reinforces their genre-defying approach, bringing their music to a more personal and kaleidoscopic dimension than ever before.
The single “Warpaint On Invisible Children” premiered on Clash Music on 02/08/2013.
